PAT TESTING
PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING (PAT)
What is PAT Testing?
PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing) is the process of periodically testing your electrical appliances for a wide range of faults. It ensures that all equipment used in a workplace is effectively maintained and safe to use. An up-to-date PAT Testing certificate is a legal requirement in Ireland and necessary for compliance with either building or public liability insurance.

WH Safety Consultancy assists employers, employees and others to put in place a suitable regime for periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations to reduce the possibility of harm arising from the electrical installation in a workplace.
Why is PAT Testing important?
Legal Requirement in Ireland
According to Regulation 89 of the 2007 Safety Health and Welfare at Work, It is a requirement in Ireland to have all portable electrical appliances periodically tested to ensure they are safe for use.

Insurance Requirement
A Pat Testing certificate is a requirement by most Irish insurers to ensure electrical equipment is tested for risk of electrical shock, and also for risk of fire that can be caused by faulty electrical equipment.

Staff & Customer Safety
Serious injury can be avoided by ensuring that electrical equipment is in accordance with the manufacturer's specification. Electrical installations, if not properly maintained, can kill, injure and cause serious property damage. In Ireland, people are killed almost every year from contact with, or as a result of electricity.
How often is PAT Testing required?
The type of appliance and its use will determine the intervals of time required for Pat Testing. Our specialised PAT Testing engineers take great care with the inspection of each appliance and our clients will receive a free consultation to establish the frequency for on-going tests.
